Shabby Chic, Cottage and Country decorating styles are alive and well at Pottery Barn, despite the poor economy. But I think you can get a much better price for the same design styles at Flea Markets and Antique Malls. This is very good news, especially since the economy’s like it is. In fact, if you’ve been looking for quality, discount furniture and collectibles in North Carolina, watch this video and find out about one of my favorite places – Korner Flea Market in Benson, NC.
Korner Flea Market is not only a Flea Market, but it’s also an Antique Mall. And like most Flea Markets and Antique Malls, you’ll usually spend 50-90% less for the same styles you’d find at Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel and Z Gallery (fyi - these stores are the ones driving home design and decor these days.)
If you’re like me, I’m sure you’ll discover countless treasures when you go to your local Antique Mall and Flea Market. For me, going into one is quite like an Easter Hunt from the days of my childhood … like how excited I got when trying to find the Golden Egg.
There is a secret though, to finding quality furniture and collectibles rather than junk at an Antique Mall or Flea Market. That secret (or secret sauce) is finding someone like Kathy Lee of Benson, NC – proud owner of Korner Flea Market. She’s passionate about her antique furniture and collectibles - in fact, she looks for items all over North Carolina, and gives extra special attention to each one before she sets it out. This is the kind of attention she translates into great furniture deals and discounts for you. Also, she offers a very inexpensive decorating service to her customers, and because of their requests, has even decided to create a year round Christmas Store.
Well, I’m ready to go shopping in Kathy’s wonderful antique mall! It looks like a lot of fun and she really has some interesting and unique pieces…at great prices no less! She is full of energy and she certainly loves what she’s doing. It’s always fun to shop at a store where people are excited about what they are doing!
Great video – great idea! I love this. This for me, is local, economic shopping, viewed right on the internet. Who needs tv to advertise? What a great idea. Who knows about this? I can’t imagine that smaller businesses won’t be all over this. I love Kathy’s shop. I think I will visit!
It’s one of the most charming places in North Carolina – the town is so much fun and makes you feel like you’ve “gone country”.
Hello. Thanks for the great information. I’ll make sure to check it out later.
We are opening the Antique Junction in Salisbury,NC and its along the same concept as Kathy’s store. I cannot wait to go check out her place and maybe bring some charm back to our place. The website is not up yet, but stay tuned…..
modern furniture has dispelled all the age-old norms and introduced new materials, designs and styles. Many years ago, wood was the primary material for any style of furniture. Today, it has been replaced by synthetic fibers, tubular metal alloys. These materials are not only easy to maintain, but can be molded into several different shapes and are extremely lightweight as wood.
Kathy has beautiful things in her store – we love to drive down from Raleigh and just browse. We love to stop for some Johnston County barbecue and spend some time with Kathy. She is just delightful, and we always find unique treasures there that make it well worth the trip down!!
Looks like a great place to shop. If I am ever in the area I’ll check it out!
